This qualification has been designed for people in the food and beverage services industry (hospitality). It provides a broad range of skills appropriate to a person operating as a front-line staff member in food and beverage services within the hospitality industry. It brings together the elements of food and drinks theoretical and practical, preparation and services with supervisory responsibilities. This qualification will help to professionalise the hospitality industry. It applies to all sectors, from small restaurants to large-scale hotels. The qualification contributed toward the Food and Beverage Management and Banqueting Manager qualification and provides articulation with gaming, travel, and other tourism industries.

This programme includes a compulsory workplace learning component. Workplace learning provides important opportunities for professional and personal growth. It addresses specific competencies identified for the acquisition of the qualification, which relates to the development of skills that will make the learner employable and will assist in developing his/her skills.
